The Keith Equacooker is a continuous dry rendering vessel designed to provide reliable, efficient and profitable rendering plant operation. The unit features a steam-jacketed shell and a rotating steam-heated agitator shaft and operates at atmospheric pressure.
Raw material feed is automatically controlled by a fluid level device which regulates supply to the cooker. Material is introduced by a feeder screw located below the internal fluid level, preventing vapour escape during operation. As the material progresses along the shell, heat and agitation reduce it to a fluid state while the rotating shaft ensures continuous movement and uniform cooking.
At the discharge end, a control wheel meters cooked material at end-point temperature into a drainer. Free tallow passes through the screen into the crude tallow tank, while cracklings are conveyed along the crax screw and discharged via feeder screws to screw presses. The presses extract additional tallow and produce a solid cake suitable for milling into meat and bone meal.
Extracted tallow is pumped to a vibrating screen and then control-fed to a decanter for desludging and further refining if required. Cooking vapours pass from the cooker shell to an entrainment trap which separates entrained solids and returns them to the cooker. These vapours may then be directed to a heat exchanger where odours are condensed and waste heat is recovered to generate process hot water. An optional bottom discharge configuration is available.
