Continuous Cookers

For the continuous processing of raw materials.

The Equacooker is a continuous dry rendering vessel with a steam jacketed shell and rotating steam heated agitator shaft. The Equacooker operates at atmospheric pressure for the cooking of animal and poultry raw materials.

Keith Equacookers are available in a range of sizes and capacities to suit production rates.

Many changes have been made to our Equa Cooker technology over the years ensuring we keep ahead of the market requirements. These include;

Improvements made to enhance performance and efficiency:

  1. Operating pressure has been increased from 860 kPa to 1000 kPa.
  2. Cooker shell is “open top” allowing venting of vapours across the entire length of the Cooker.
  3. Revised flow steam passage through the shaft allowing for more efficient condensate removal.
  4. New steam trapping system on jackets and shaft to obviate otherwise inherent steam trap locking.

Improvements made to increase shell and shaft life:

  1. Inner shell thickness increased from 28mm to 32mm thick.
  2. Outer shell thickness increased from 14mm to 15mm.
  3. Inner shell liners are fitted to prevent shell wear at the shaft baffles.
  4. Shaft rotational speed reduced by 30%.
  5. Satellite tubes on shaft increased from SCHD 160 to SCHD XXS.
  6. Clearance from satellite tube to shell end plates increased to reduce erosion on end plates.
  7. Clearance from shaft baffle plates to inner shell increased to reduce erosion on inner shell.
  8. Stub shaft design revised to exceed the requirement of AS1403 for rotating shafts.
  9. Stub shaft wear sleeve extended to increase protection of the stub shaft from end plate erosion.

General Improvements include:

  1. New style gearbox fitted to accommodate reduced speed and also to increase service factor from previous model.
  2. Individual drives are fitted to each driven item associated with the Equa Cooker Package.
  3. Access to the Cooker inner shell is improved for annual inspections, cleaning and general maintenance.
  4. Improved level detection systems utilising steel float and metal detection proximity sensor head.

These revisions have attributed to over 10% performance improvement in evaporation rates and therefore raw materials processing rates. On old generation cookers we offer an average evaporation rate of 35kg/m2/hr, whereas our latest specification cookers can achieve up to 40kg/m2/hr. By comparison a Disc Cooker will at best offer 25kg/m2/hr.
